Colonial Williamsburg

A combination of a historical landmark, and a living history museum, Colonial Williamsburg has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in Virginia. The site is an open-air assemblage of buildings representing an old colonial town, and is populated with historical reenactors whose job it is to explain and demonstrated aspects of daily life in the past. These reenactors work, dress and talk as they would have in colonial times. Unlike most other living history museums, Colonial Williamsburg is unique in that it was constructed from an active modern town whose inhabitants and post-colonial era buildings were completely removed in exchange for new authentic 18th century style architecture.

  • Enjoy Colonial silverware, musical instruments, furniture, and other antiques at the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum
  • See John D. Rockefeller Jr.'s house at Bassett Hall
  • Explore 18th century Virginia's rich historical past with stories from people, places and objects
