Stop for lunch at a colonial tavern as you tour the Governor’s Palace, House of Burgess, and Powder Magazine.Go even further back to the first days of English settlement in the New World at Jamestown. See the original ruins of the 1607 settlement, and explore a recreation of the village at Settlement Park. Learn the story of English settlement from another perspective at a Powhatan Indian Village, and see working replicas of the three ships that brought the first colonists from England.
Explore the scene of the decisive American victory at Yorktown, the landmark siege of the Revolutionary War that clinched the independence of the US. Tour the battlefield where British General Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington and his French allies in the last land battle of the Revolution in 1781 and see the 1884 monument to the victory at Yorktown. Nearby, discover the living conditions and medical equipment available in a Continental Army camp, and see reenactors depict daily life and work circa 1780 on a period farm.
