Mount Vernon

Mount Vernon, President George Washington’s estate on the bank of the Potomac River, is a National Historic Landmark owned and preserved in trust by the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association. President Washington said of his home in a 1794 letter, “I have no objection to any sober or orderly person's gratifying their curiosity in viewing the buildings, Gardens… about Mount Vernon.” Today, visitors come from around the country to see the mansion Washington designed himself, standing in the heart of an 8,000 acre plantation that was once home to five separate working farms.

  • Walk the beautiful gardens recreating the early days of the United States
