Virginia State Capitol
Serving as the seat of the state government of the Commonwealth of Virginia, this awe-inspiring building is actually the eighth rendition of the capitol building. It is one of eleven capitols in the United States without an external dome, and its modern renovations make it a close replica of the nation’s White House. The modern renovations cost $104 million and were completed in time for Queen Elizabeth’s visit in 2007. The renovations included an extension of the lawn as well as the formation of two wings, and a completely new HVAC system.
