Shockoe Bottom

Part of the original conception of Richmond from Colonel William Mayo in 1737, it is one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods.Although growth has always been slow due to the flood damage caused by the James River, building in the area was stimulated by the flood wall for the James River built in 1995, and has seen the development of several projects undertaken.
