Monument Avenue
Monument Avenue is an illustrious residential boulevard lined with gigantic mansions that serve as standing reminders of the extravagance of the post-Civil War Gilded Age. There are several grand sculptures of Civil War era figures such as Confederate General Robert E. Lee, Confederate States of America President Jefferson Davis, and famed Confederate Stonewall Jackson. A designation by the city that Monument Avenue is an “Old and Historic Neighborhood” has helped Monument Avenue to maintain the character that makes it so remarkable.
- See a fantastic sculpture constructed as a tribute to Arthur Ashe, world champion tennis player and African-American social activist
