Harvard University
Harvard University is the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States and one of the most prestigious universities in the world. It was founded in 1636 with just nine students and one master, serving mainly as a school to educate future ministers in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Located in Cambridge, west of Boston, it is just up the Charles River from the also-famous Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Over its long history, Harvard University has grown to include twelve degree-granting schools plus the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, with over 20,000 students in undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs.
