Metropolitan Museum of Art
The Metropolitan Museum of Art was established in 1870 to bring the fine arts to New York City, and it has since grown to become one of the largest and finest museums of art in the world. The Met includes works from all around the world from every era, from Ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome, to Europe’s Old Masters, to Asian art, to Oceanic, to African, to Islamic, to American, to modern and contemporary art. It displays paintings and drawings, sculpture and reliefs, glassware and metalwork, arms and armor, textiles, musical instruments, photographs, and installations, among other things. The Met’s vast collection is proudly housed in its equally vast gallery, anchoring Fifth Avenue’s Museum Mile stretching along east Central Park.
