Broadway

Broadway is the premiere American theater experience.  Home to drama, comedy, and musicals of all stripes, Broadway performances attract New York locals and people from around the country and around the world.  It grew in prominence as a theater district in the 1800s, benefiting from a relatively central location running through Midtown Manhattan, and in 1866 the theater called Niblo’s Garden saw the birth of the modern American musical with the opening of Broadway’s first long-running mega-hit complete with original music and choreography, The Black Crook.  Live theater on Broadway has survived the advent of film and of television, and even now in the age of the internet it is still going strong.
